How United Way Supports Health

United Way supports area Community Partners who are working every day to make sure we have a healthy community.

Take a look at what some of our Community Partners are doing in the way of health and mental well-being . . .

  • Animal Rescue League of NWGA is a no-kill shelter that connects dogs with a loving home that enhances the mental well-being of local families. An emotional support animal, assistance animal, or support animal, is a companion animal that a medical professional says provides some benefit for a person disabled by a mental health condition or emotional disorder. Emotional support animals are typically dogs but are sometimes cats or other animals. Last year, United Way connected 147 dogs to families.
  • Coulter Hampton Foundation, Inc. works to help families that are suffering from Aplastic Anemia, Cancer, or other childhood diseases. Priority will be given to families in the Gordon County area.
  • Camp New Adventure and the George Chambers Resource Center provide support for adults with disabilities.
  • The Family Resource Center of Gordon County works to create awareness within the community by dispersing information and materials about child development, child abuse and neglect, parent education, and other relevant topics, and to be the driving force behind the prevention effort in our county. They also provide programs that teach parents and caregivers more effective skills. To support families with programs that include everyone from infant to adult, both married and single parents.

Thanks to your donation to United Way last year over 1,500 individuals with disabilities, children with severe sickness, survivors of domestic violence, and families needing emotional support received services to improve their quality of life. And 198 dogs were connected to a loving family.
